BET Music Matters: Estelle, Elle Varner and Stacy Barthe
Well it’s Grammy Weekend here in Los Angeles and there are so many things going on that are far too cool! Last night we were invited to check out our upcoming Spring Issue feature, Stacy Barthe, as she opened up for Grammy winner Estelle. It was a night of some of the most amazing rising talent in the industry.
Stacy rocked the house in a beautiful traditional African dress with her signature fade. She was a force.
Next up, Los Angeles native Elle Varner brought the energy (and that HAIR!!!) to the stage. We are in LOVE with this chick. She’s so dope. One of our favorite moments was her silky smooth cover of Miguel’s “Sure Thing”.
As if that wasn’t dope enough she followed up with a track that I’d never heard before, “So Fly”, with her own personal beat boxer.
Dope, right? Of course she closed with “Only Want To Give It To You”. Can’t say I didn’t cross my fingers hoping J Cole would come out to top off the duet but Elle held it down and it was a very nice way to round off her high energy set.
Rounding off the night was headliner Estelle. Having seen her perform a few times it was nice to see her bring a different style and energy to her set. She definitely put on a hell of a show.
She even got a little flirty with a lucky fan from the audience and showed him a little bit of her island roots. Get it, Estelle!
All in all, the show was definitely worth seeing and if/when the Music Matters Tour stops through your city be sure to check it out! And a big shoutout to Luke James, who is holding it down for the fellas on the show as well.
