EDGE Style Feature: Naomi Yasuda Nail Artist and Manicurist

When I asked celebrity nail stylist Naomi Yasuda, what advice she had for others who were trying to find their niche in life, she simply stated “my advice is to work with something they love to do.” This is coming from someone who started doing nails as a mere hobby. It’s since become her claim to fame and has opened tremendous doors. After studying the art of the manicure and nail design at Chunichi Beauty College in Nagoya, Japan where she is from, Yasuda moved to New York in 2007 and hasn’t turned back. Since moving, she has worked with Katy Perry, Lady GaGa, Kelly Osbourne, Alicia Keys,  Kim Cattrall, FENDI, Chanel, Complex, NYLON, Vogue, and Elle Magazines along with a host of others.  Just like you and I,  Yasuda was a girl with a gift and a dream.  Naomi went on to share with me how she felt about working with her first big name “my first celebrity client was Keri Hilson. I will never forget the day… I couldn’t believe that I was doing her nails.” Remaining  grounded, Naomi never lets her success  become distracting.   “My work involves me to be surrounded by celebrities. There is a lot of glamour, but despite all the nail art I would like to think of myself as a simple person.” How ironic is it that she produces such creatively complex designs? Her work remains relevant, fresh, and is right in step with pop culture and fashion. Known for her rounded tip manicures, use of bright colors, and outlandish prints, Naomi’s work is easy to distinguish. It’s mind boggling  how she creates new looks for such a wide array of people. “I have so many types of clients that my style has to adapt to their preference, but I do like to add my own flavor.” Her “flavor” comes from everywhere as she draws inspirations from fashion music and everything in between. In the future, Naomi says that she may “someday come out with my own nail line.” As of right now she “looks forward to continuing to challenge herself creatively, taking the world of nail art into unchartered territory and inspiring us all along the way.” Perfecto.
