EDGE Support: Andrea Lewis and Issa Rae Present “Black Actress”, Launch IndieGoGo Campaign
Two of our all time favorite EDGERs, Andrea Lewis and Issa Rae, are teaming up for a brand new webseries that will explore the ups and downs of the life of a “Black Actress”. The show was created by Lewis and will be housed on Issa Rae’s YouTube Channel which was made popular by Rae’s Awkward Black Girl series. The two are pairing up for an IndieGoGo campaign that will help the show make it through it’s first full season. Check out the campaign below:
Here is more info about the series:
Why Black Actress was created:
Andrea Lewis has been in the entertainment business her entire life. As an actress she has experienced the ups and downs of the entertainment industry. After dealing with the stereotypes and situations that black actresses face over and over, the idea for Black Actress was born.
The mockumentary style series is a depiction of Lewis’ and other prominent black actresses everyday struggle to succeed in an industry that thrives on stereotypes.
Who is the Black Actress?:
Black Actress will follow the life of “Kori Bailey” played by Andrea Lewis, as she struggles with the pursuit of getting her big break. Having mediocre success on a television series as a teenager, Bailey is relentless in following her dreams to become a star. Even with auditions being sparse and stereotypes running wild she refuses to get lost in the sauce and classified as just another “black actress”.
Black Actress will be a 10 episode series featured on the Issa Rae Productions YouTube channel. With the successes of web series like The Misadventures of Awkward Black Girl and RoomieLoverFriends, people have shown that there is a demand for unique stories and relatable characters online.
Kori Bailey will be played by Andrea Lewis (Degrassi: The Next Generation, Cadet Kelly, The Natalie Cole Story) and feature a short interview with familiar black actress in each episode (Tatyana Ali, Tracee Ellis Ross, etc.).
The Black Actress Team:
Creator/Writer/Executive Producer – Andrea Lewis
Executive Producer – Brian Walker
Producers – Issa Rae and Benoni Tagoe
Director – Michael Pinckney
